She accepts the proposal and starts spending all her time with him. In the mean time, Sandhya's parents come to know about their daughter's affair and object to it. They decide to get her married off to a rich NRI, Ishaan (Varun Dhawan). Sandhya leaves for London, where Ishaan lives, without informing Arjun about her marriage. Arjun gets a job in Mumbai and moves there with his mother. He continues writing letters to Sandhya but the letters never reach her. Consequently, Arjun loses hope of ever meeting Sandhya again and starts leading a carefree life in Mumbai with his friends. The friends also arrange for him to meet Janvi (Sonakshi Sinha), who is a classical singer and daughter of a millionaire businessman. Arjun and Janvi grow fond of each other, but they never become close. After a few years, Arjun is working in a small production house owned by his friend Purab (Rishi Kapoor). In the process, he meets Ishaan again when he comes to interview for a job in the same company. It is revealed that Ishaan left Sandhya when he realized that she was only marrying him for his money. Sandhya had been keeping in touch with Arjun but did not inform him about her marriage to Ishaan. However, after moving to London and meeting Ishaan again, she finds out that she still loves Arjun. She returns to India and tells Arjun that she will only continue the relationship if he is willing to marry her. Later, Arjun finally confesses his feelings to Janvi and she gives him her consent for marriage. When the wedding date arrives, Sandhya's father (Naseeruddin Shah) learns about everything and comes to stop the wedding. He demands Ishaan's money back from Sandhya for marrying his daughter without his consent. In a fit of rage, Sandhya's father slaps her and insults Arjun as well as the guests at the wedding. In retaliation, Janvi slaps him as well as Sandhya's mom (Dimple Kapadia) but her dad defends his wife.
